ALBERTO GIACOMETTI

CHALLENGE

Online Catalogues Raisonnés are a fast growing publishing model. Fondation Giacometti wished to publish the complete catalogue of Alberto Giacometti’s prints (burins, etchings, aquatints, woodcuts and lithographies) as an online database, hence providing a systematic list of the totality of the artist’s prints, from 1917 to 1966.

SOLUTION

Working closely with the Graphic Arts department, Alphabet built an API for transferring data from the Foundation’s internal database of works to the new custom-designed website. Accessibility, updatability and enhanced search functionalities allow for a full exploitation of the wealth of information at the site’s core.

RESULT

The Alberto Giacometti Prints Database (AGPD) is currently being proof-read, and will soon be released. The site will be essential as a scholarly tool for academic researchers, and as the most reliable source of authoritative provenance and authentication information for collectors and dealers.
